more granny patchwork. ..

So this week I have made some more squares for my patchwork granny cushion.

I used the same patterns as last time.
Its amazing how different they look, in two different colour ways!

So now I need to do the bit I dislike, sewing in the ends. You'd think I'd do it as I go along to make it less painstaking, but no I put it off!!

Then it's joining the squares together. I need to decide whether I sew them or crochet together?
Then I need to decide what to do for the back? Whether I just use a full piece of Denim, but that would require sewing skills? or I continue the mix of denim patches and crochet squares??
Hmmmm, decisions, decisions!!

We purchased some new cookery books when we were on holiday. A coffee one, which we just had to have!!

And today, we made our first recipe out of it!!

Coffee and Walnut cake - yummy!!!

Had some lovely flowers from hubby this week, the smell of the Lillies manage to  perfume the whole room!

Captain America

"Captain America: The First Avenger" will focus on the early days of the Marvel Universe when Steve Rogers volunteers to participate in an experimental program that turns him into the Super Soldier known as Captain America. As Captain America, Rogers joins forces with Bucky Barnes and Peggy Carter to wage war on the evil HYDRA organization, led by the villainous Red Skull.

The Next Three Days

Life seems perfect for John Brennan (Russell Crowe) until his wife, Lara (Elizabeth Banks) is arrested for a murder she says she didn't commit. Three years into her sentence, John is struggling to hold his family together, raising their son and teaching at college while he pursues every means available to prove her innocence. With the rejection of their final appeal, Lara becomes suicidal and John decides there is only one possible, bearable solution: to break his wife out of prison. Refusing to be deterred by impossible odds or his own inexperience, John devises an elaborate escape plot with the help of an ex con (Liam Neeson) and plunges into a dangerous and unfamiliar world, ultimately risking everything for the woman he loves.
***** didn't expect to enjoy this! But I RECOMMEND, great action, with emotion, and lots of twists and turns!

  1. Some lovely colours in your granny squares, I'd go for the denim back to complement your denim square in the middle - but then I love sewing!

    1. thank you x I'm not a sewer, so not entirely sure if I actually have the skills to do a fabric back :(

  2. I love the colours of your squares too. I'd love to see it with a denim backing, but I love denim and contrasts.

    1. thank you xx i'll look into whether I can manage to sew a backing on :-/ I really need to get my sewing skills up to scratch and get over my fear of doing it !

  3. I would crochet them together - because I enjoy it. I also would put a denim back on, sorry. I look forward to seeing it finished :)

  4. oh dear, another vote for the denim backing! I agree it would look nice. The question is whether I can actually do it, or whether I cop out and stick to crochet!

  5. I think a denim backing would look great (sorry!). That cake looks yummy - got any left?

  6. I love the denim contrast square in the middle & I think backing the cushion in denim would set this off nicely :-)

  7. I love the smell of lilies too. If it was me finishing your piece I'd sew everything. But then I sew and can't crochet a granny square so I wouldn't have the problem in the first place! I'm sure whatever you do it will be lovely.
I hate sewing in ends on my knitting too.
    Have a lovely week.

  8. wow you're doing so well with your granny squares! They look fantastic together and the denim definitely adds something too. I think either of your ideas for the back would look fab, its going to be a gorgeous cushion when its done!

That cake looks amaaaaaazing... i bet there's nothing left of it now! :)

  9. Your granny squares look wonderful. Like you say they look so different when done in different colours, I'm loving the demin design. Your coffee and walnut cake looks like it should be in a shop window, almost too good to eat. Thanks for the film reviews. I haven't heard of 'The next three days' it definitely sounds worth a look. Can't wait to see what happens with your grannys squares.
    Ali x

  10. Denim looks good with everything, so would be ideal for your granny squares. Hope you have a good week.

  11. I love your granny squares - my mum has made some recently and she is crocheting them together. Your cake looks scrummy!

  12. Your squares are lovely and yes changing the colours around often change the whole look of a square. I love the denim patch in the middle. I was going to suggest a denim patchwork back with a crochet square in the middle as an opposite to the front but it looks like you're like me - a bit allergic to sewing :-)

  13. The denim patch really sets off the look and would look just as good for the back as well if you don't want to sew a full denim back. x

  14. I would say if you can sew your squares together you could sew the denim on :) i think a full denim back would look and im looking forward to seeing it when its done!
Ps if i can sew anyone can so dont be put off!
